Dr Gareth Churchill

Music tutor

Overview

I’m a composer working (at least to date) in an acoustic instrumental and vocal idiom. I was born into a Welsh family but grew up on the Somerset Levels and studied at universities and conservatoires in London and Cardiff.

My work has been performed in Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, the USA and the UK and I have received commissions from the Vale of Glamorgan Festival, Musicfest Aberystwyth and Bangor Music Festival (amongst others).

My output consists of miniatures and aesthetically related sequences there-of which reflect interests in cryptography and harmonic function.

I have taught at Cardiff University School of Music, on the composers’ course at Musicfest Aberystwyth and for Cardiff University Centre for Continuing and Professional Education since 2010.
