Overview
Molly is a nurse by background who specialised in intensive care. Prior to taking up her post at Cardiff University, she worked as a Professor at Reading University and the University of Surrey. Molly was the Royal College of Nursing national prescribing adviser between 2003 and 2008, and has roles on various international and national working groups and project advisory committees concerned with the development of the education and research agenda in the area of prescribing and medicines management by nurses. Molly’s area of research is concerned with the impact of prescribing by nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals on service delivery, and more recently, specifically, improving clinical outcomes for patients through antimicrobial stewardship programmes. Molly lived in the United States between 2012 and 2014, and during this time, held a Visiting Professor post at the University of California, Davis. Molly is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

Research
My area of research is concerned with the impact of new roles (specifically the adoption of prescribing by nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals) on service delivery. Much of my work has been undertaken in primary care and has involved diabetes service delivery, dermatology and pain services. I have also undertaken some work which has examined interprofessional education and interprofessional collaborative practice in healthcare teams. Current research studies include research with community nurse prescribers and the support required to expand their scope of prescribing practice, antimicrobial stewardship competencies for undergraduate healthcare professional education, and the development of an intervention for nurse and pharmacist prescribers that will support the choice and use of antibiotics.
Research
Quality-Assured Follow up of quiEscent Neovascular agE-relaTed maculaR dEgeneration by non-medical practitioners: a randomised controlled trial The FENETRE study funded by the HTA (17/85/05) led by Dr Konstantinos Balaskas, Moorfields Eye Hospital. In this large, multi-site prospective study funded by the NIHR, we will look at how care for patients with stable AMD can be devolved to community optometry practices. We will explore the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence decision support to facilitate the process of monitoring patients with stable AMD closer to home, reducing the pressures on busy hospital-based eye clinics. Cardiff University are leading on the mixed-methods qualitative process evaluation phase of this trial, focussing on the workforce adaptations related to the intervention. Biography
I am nurse by background who specialised in intensive care. Prior to coming to Cardiff University, I worked as a Professor at Reading University and the University of Surrey. I was the Royal College of Nursing national prescribing adviser between 2003 and 2008, and I have roles on various international and national working groups and project advisory committees concerned with the development of the education and research agenda in the area of prescribing and medicines management by non-medical healthcare professionals. Most recently, I have been interested in improving clinical outcomes for patients through antimicrobial stewardship programmes. I lived in the United States between 2012 and 2014; during this time I held a visiting professor post at the University of California, Davis. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
