Overview

I have worked at Cardiff University since 2008, where I am currently Reader in Manufacturing Systems Management, and am Deputy Head of the Logistics and Operations Management Section (Postgraduate). I am co-chair of Cardiff University RemakerSpace, chair of the Year 2 Examination Boards for Business Management and Economic programmes, deputy chair of the Cardiff University-DSV strategic partnership, and have held Chartered Engineer status since 2013.

My research explores the strategic management of advanced manufacturing and information technologies in contemporary operations management. I have published in the top journals (ABS 4* and FT 50) and have also disseminated my research at leading international conferences. Based on my expertise in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) I was commissioned to produce an edited book by Palgrave Macmillan (published 2020).

Prior to joining Cardiff Business School I gained commercial experience in a range of specialist manufacturing industries, and therefore particularly enjoy working on applied research projects with industrial partners. To-date I have attracted research income exceeding £2.5m, comprised of funds from research councils, Welsh Government, and industry.

Teaching is a particularly enjoyable and rewarding element of my role at Cardiff Business School, where I have lectured on a wide variety of operations management themes for undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive audiences. I supervise MSc and MBA students in their master dissertations, and also PhD students in the conduct of their doctoral research.  I am particularly interested in the design of academic programmes and their assessment for effective learning. At Cardiff I sit on the university’s programme approval & revalidation sub-committee, and I am also an external examiner at three other UK universities.
