Overview
I am a Senior Lecturer in Manufacturing Systems Management at Cardiff Business School. I am also co-director of the Cardiff University Centre for Redesign, Repair, Remanufacture, and Reuse.
My research principally focuses on how advanced manufacturing and information technologies may affect the management of operations, particularly in terms of how firms can exploit these as part of a competitive strategy. In the conduct of my research I have worked with an extensive range of companies in both manufacturing & service sectors. I have secured over £1.5m in research funding, and my work has been published in the leading Operations Management journals.
As a Chartered Engineer with commercial experience in a range of specialist manufacturing industries, I am keen to integrate both research and practice in my teaching and supervision activities. I have designed and developed a range of modules at Cardiff University, and lecture on a variety of Operations Management topics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additionally, I am a supervisor to MSc, MBA, and PhD students on a range of contemporary Operations and Supply Chain Management themes.
I am enthusiastic about pedagogic issues in Higher Education, with an emphasis on quality in assessment. I currently serve as Chair of the Business School’s Year 2 Undergraduate Examinations Board, and Dissertation Co-ordinator for the Logistics and Operations Management Section. I am external examiner for two other UK Universities.
