Overview

I am an economic geologist and geochemist working as part of the "NL4D" consortium to investigate the controls on Ni-Cu-PGE mineralisation in the Northern Bushveld Complex, South Africa. I am particularly interested in the geochemistry of critical and precious metals in the magmatic and magmatic-hydrothermal environment and in how metals behave in high temperature hydrothermal systems. I also run the Cardiff University Fluid Inclusion Lab.

My research uses field observations, petrology, analytical geochemistry and micro-analysis to help understand the behaviour of critical and precious metals in magmatic and hydrothermal systems. My current focus is investigating the role of fluids in the development of layered igneous intrusions and in magmatic sulphide Ni-Cu-PGE deposits.

My research interests include:

  • The role of volatiles in magmatic sulphide Ni-Cu-PGE deposits and layered ultra-mafic intrusions.
  • Main Zone hosted mineralisation in the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex.
  • Novel application of fluid inclusion analysis to ultra-mafic plutonic rocks and high temperature fluid inclusions.
  • The behaviour and distribution of semi-metals and precious metals in porphyry Cu deposits.
