I have a keen interest in Clinical Legal Education, and am Head of Pro Bono at the School of Law and Politics.

I am a (2011) Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellow.

I founded the Cardiff Law School Innocence Project in 2005, now run by Dr Dennis Eady and Dr Holly Greenwood, where our students look at cases involving possible miscarriages of justice. It is the only UK university innocence project to have overturned a conviction - and we have two successes to date, which attracted a lot of media attention.

I am co-chair of the Client Interviewing Competition for England and Wales - www.clientinterviewing.com - which is part of the international Client Counselling Competition, www.brownmosten.com . I coach/judge students in client interviewing and advising, including to international competition success. I have hosted the international competition at Cardiff (18 countries competing), and also the international Negotiation Competition (for 26 countries).

I am responsible for the various "real client" schemes that form our pro bono portfolio; other colleagues contribute to this diverse range of student opportunities based on their own areas of interest/expertise. In 2012, I launched the Welsh Rugby Union/Cardiff University Legal Advice Scheme, a partnership between the WRU, law firm Hugh James, and the law school. Students now assist clubs to incorporate, to help avoid personal liability on club volunteers.

I am a Director of Riverside Advice, and have held several voluntary positions, including being a member of the Advisory Board for the Personal Support Unit in Cardiff (2010-2012) and was a founding trustee of Reaching Justice Wales, the Welsh Access to Justice Foundation trust. I was previously involved with the Innocence Network UK, founded at Bristol University.

I studied Law at Bristol University, and qualified as a solicitor in 1989, specialising in conveyancing and family matters at David W Harris & Co, solicitors. I also advised on housing, legal aid and welfare benefits at the Bridgend Community Advice Centre.

My past teaching experience is diverse, including:

Legal Practice Course; module leader for the undergraduate option, Law of Succession and more recently Legal Practice: Foundation Skills; Chartered Legal Executives (CILEX) vocational courses.

I currently teach on the First Year undergraduate Legal Foundations module.

I was an examiner on the Cardiff University Bond Solon scheme for Expert Witnesses, and external examiner for the Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE course at Westminster University.
