Andrew Millington

Teaching associate

School of Optometry and Vision Sciences

I have combined a clinical teaching role at Cardiff University with  owning and running a busy independent practice employing four optometrists and a contact lens optician, and having a successful writing career having published over 40 articles.

My role at the School of Optometry  and Visual Science  involves both  clinical and teaching elements. I have a passion for providing high quality eye care for people with learning disabilities and have been part of the Special Assessment team for over 20 years.

My teaching duties include postgraduate taught modules for WOPEC as well as teaching undergraduate clinical techniques. I have a Masters Degree awarded by the Psychology Department of Cardiff Metropolitan University  and use that expertise to develop soft skills such as interview technique, reflective practice and professional awareness with the second year cohort.

I am interested in the development of professional identity and the use of space to define role. I still retain a natural curiosity which means that I am as likely to be found reading papers on Second World War history as the heuristic of Feminist Research or Search Engine Optimisation.
