Laboratory Support Worker

Overview

I work to ensure that researchers can rely on having the right consumables at the right time and in the right place. I am mainly based in the Wash Room, 425C but my role involves collection and distribution around all the laboratories on the 4th, 5th and lower ground floors.

One of the main functions of the role is to process all items requiring sterilization using the 2 autoclaves available within the department. Waste from both tissue culture and microbiology is removed and disposed of promptly and safely. Solutions and instruments are sterilized and stocks replaced to make sure that researchers can continue working without interruption.

My role also includes collection, washing and distribution of glassware, handling deliveries as they arrive, distribution of reverse osmosis water to the various reservoirs around the department, preparation and sterilization of PBS and water and replenishment of basic stock items.
