Overview

I am a senior lecturer in the School of Healthcare Sciences with 16 years of experience working in higher education. Prior to this, I gained 15 years of clinical practice experience working as an Occupational therapist. My main lecturing responsibility is on the BSc Hons Occupational therapy programme ( 3 years full time ) and the PGDip Occupational therapy programme ( 2 years full time). I supervise masters level students in the School of Healthcare sciences. I hold a school-wide role as simulated learning champion for occupational therapy students and am currently the Occupational therapy student wellbeing coordinator.

  • Designing and delivering simulated learning for healthcare students
  • Interprofessional education
  • Special interest in the area of rheumatology

Biography

Clinical experience from 1988 - 2004

15 years of clinical practice as an occupational therapist in a variety of settings, with 7 years working in rheumatology including a clinical specialist position in rheumatology and hand surgery.

Academic responsibilities:

  • Senior lecturer since 2017
  • Learning and teaching responsibility on both the Full-time BSc Hons occupational therapy programme and PGDip Occupational therapy programme.
  • Student wellbeing coordinator for occupational therapy students
  • Digital learning committee member ( School of Healthcare sciences) for occupational therapy students
  • Personal tutor
  • Supervision of Masters students
External roles:
  • 2018-2020: Project lead and editor for RCOT and NICE accredited Practice guidelines review group: Hand and wrist orthoses for adults with rheumatological conditions.
  • 2015-2019: External examiner Derby University. Masters in Hand therapy
  • 2018-2020: Welsh assemble government steering group member. Development of a national Musculoskeletal framework
  • April 2013:Steering group member Development of UK training package for GPs and professionals about work and arthritis.
  • April 2013 - Deputy Education officer for the British health professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR)
  • April 2014 - 2018 Education officer for BHPR which includes chairing a subcommittee to develop a package of online learning and physical courses for AHPs in rheumatology
  • August 2013 -2015- Project leader for the development of  NICE and COT accredited guidelines on orthotic interventions in rheumatology occupational therapy.

Professional Interests

  • 2006 -2013: a member of the National executive committee ( NEC) for the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section - Rheumatology (COTSSR) fulfilling the roles of Welsh representative and latterly editor of the Journal of Rheumatology Occupational therapy.
