Kevin is a Senior Lecturer in Education in the School of Social Sciences. His research interests include curriculum theory, critical pedagogy and cultural studies. He is also committed to developing capacity for educational research in Wales, and enjoys opportunities to work with schools, local educational organisations and HEI partners in pursuit of that goal. 

Kevin is also the Co-director of the Student Experience for the School of Social Sciences. This includes working closely with Personal Tutors, Student Academic Representatives, and colleagues concerned with inclusive education.


Kevin is originally from the United States, where he was a secondary school technology teacher for six years. In 2011, he accepted a post as the Fellow in Curriculum at the Institute of Education at the University of the South Pacific. From 2013-2017, Kevin was a Research Associate at the Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research Data & Methods. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer in Education in the School of Social Sciences. 

Kevin received his PhD in Educational Leadership, with a major in curriculum and a minor in cultural studies, from Miami University in Oxford, OH, USA. He also completed a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Teacher Leadership, with an emphasis on multicultural education there. He received his Bachelors degree in Business Information Technology Education from Utah State University in Logan, UT, USA.

Kevin teaches on a number of undergraduate and post-graduate modules including An Introduction to Education, the Sociology of Education, Conflict and Change in educational policy, Principles and Practice of Research Design, Critical Perspectives in Social Science, and Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century. Prior to his position at Cardiff University, Kevin has lectured on modules including Curriculum Studies, Curriculum Theory, Philosophies of Education, Introduction to Social Inclusion and Socio-cultural Foundations of Education. 

Kevin's passion is curriculum and curriculum theory. He is also interested in enactments of critical pedgagogy in both educational and non-educational spaces. He enjoys research involving various dimensions of curriculum theory, critical theory and cultural studies in examining the interplay between the politics of curriculum and its impact on teacher education, classroom practices and pupils' orientations to schooling. He also enjoys collaborating with teachers in increasing their research capacity and in developing research-informed pedagogical practices.

Current Research

Kevin is currently researching a number of projects relating to the development of the new curriculum for Wales. These include school councils, Welsh language as a second language instruction, school climate and action research as a method for implementation and evaluation of pedagogical practice. He also works closely with regional consortia and local schools in developing teachers' research capacity.
