Bettina Bockelmann-Evans is interested in developing an understanding of the sources, pathways and fate of diffuse pollution in the inter-connected surface and subsurface water bodies of a catchment. The aim of her research is to use this understanding to construct predictive water quality and ecology models which may be used to simulate the short and long-term impacts of nutrient inputs on receiving water bodies. She uses and refines the HRC’s hydrodynamic and water quality models DIVAST and HEMAT, including the full process descriptions for the nutrients in aquatic systems.

Bettina’s research plans are to use field, laboratory and numerical investigations for a better understanding of underlying water quality processes. She is particularly interested in investigating estuarine waters and the impact of the salinity gradient on nutrient sediment interaction with the aim being to formulate biogeochemical variables.
