Biography

I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I completed my undergraduate studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), gaining a first class honours degree in journalism and two dean's awards. I moved to Wales in 2012 to undertake a master's degree at Cardiff University, and I was fortunate to be able to also complete my PhD at the same institution. For my PhD dissertation, I critically analysed Malaysia's national efforts to create 'modern' Malaysian citizens or new cultural identity. I mainly explored the issues of post-colonialism, modernity, religion and identity. Both of my MA and PhD studies were fully funded by the Malaysian government.

From 2011 to 2012, I was a writer at Blu Inc Media. I contributed feature articles for GLAM, which is a reputable fashion and lifestyle magazine. Apart from writing, I was also actively involved in fashion photoshoots and brand events. This gave me a unique insight into the world of fashion and marketing.

During my years as an undergraduate student, I participated in a number of practical-based activities. I produced a magazine for the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, UiTM. I also organised a series of journalism talks to encourage fellow aspiring journalists. In my final year, I carried out a media event that involved local brands, celebrities, and musicians.
