Dr Weihua Ye

Research Services Officer

Cardiff Business School

Overview

I have a BA (Honours) in English Language and Literature from Zhejiang Wanli University, Ningbo, China. I have gained MA Journalism Studies and PhD Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies from Cardiff University. After eight years as a close observer and analyst of British politics and the media, I've worked for Cardiff University's student support services and now I am part of the CARBS Research Office. I bring with me relevant skills based on my extensive experience at two universities, especially at Cardiff University as a student, teaching assistant and researcher, and also my work experience from the business world.

Research

My research interests include gender, politics & the media; feminist media studies; children, Victorian media & culture; international students and the UK.

I have an established research expertise and analytical skills derived from extensive postgraduate studies at Cardiff University and through my research work with the media and with the then Welsh Assembly, now the Welsh Parliament. In a nutshell, I am accustomed to collecting, recording, summarising and analysing large amounts of data both factual and anecdotal, and applying quantitative and qualitative research methods accordingly, within established frameworks of interpretation. My PhD is the first comparative study of press representations of men and women in the then Welsh Assembly which has a high level of female representatives since its creation.

Biography

Good at and fond of learning. I am a zealous follower of English Literature. I love Victorian Era with a passion and Charles Dickens is my favourite. I love British countryside and enjoy exploring villages and historical sites. I also love European classical music, Chinese calligraphy and painting. I have lived in Cardiff for more than 10 years and I think Wales is a wonderful country which I gladly call my second home.
