I am a researcher at the Cardiff Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Human-Machine Systems at Cardiff University. I am associated with the Human-Centred Computing Research Priority Area within the School of Computer Science and Informatics.

My research agenda concerns the intersection of human interactions with various emerging technologies. This includes:

  • accelerating computer vision on the edge for improved UX in mixed and augmented reality;
  • understanding and augmenting human activities and abilities with artificial intelligence;
  • enhancing human-robot interaction through mixed and augmented reality;
  • creating new capabilities for future AI and autonomous systems.

        This work is international (with NSU, Dhaka; IIT, Ropar) and interdisciplinary, cutting across engineering, computer science, physiotherapy and psychology. Funders including ERDF, GCRF, EPSRC and individual benefactors from companies such as Google LLC and Ping Express UK have supported this collaborative research with international partners.

          Recent roles in Industry and Academia (selected) include:

          • Contributor to Cardiff Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Human-Machine Systems Theme Leadership Group.
          • Data and Algorithms Engineer (2020-2021) at Risevest – a Nigerian/US-based seed-stage fintech startup valued at $30M, connecting over 250K users to the best dollar-denominated diversified investment opportunities worldwide; Techstars Alumnus with a seed raise of $2M.
          • Machine Learning Engineer (2019) at Evolve Credit – an African seed-stage fintech startup providing lending infrastructure to enable inclusive and transparent credit facilities for Africans; seed raise of $325K.
          • Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (2016-2018) at Chopnow – a bootstrapped early-stage food-delivery startup; one of the very first fully-digital services operating out of southwestern Nigeria.

          Professional memberships

          • Graduate Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
          • Member, Black in AI
          • Member, International Association of Engineers (IAENG)

          Committees and reviewing

          • Reviewer, ICLR 2021 Workshop on Geometrical and Topological Representation Learning
          • Program Committee member, NeurIPS 2020 Workshop on Topological Data Analysis
          • Reviewer, Black in AI 2020 Workshop colocated with NeurIPS 2020

          My research goal is to enhance human situational understanding and facilitate supervisory control of large-scale, dynamic and complex autonomous systems subject to adversarial attacks and uncertainties in their environment. Currently, I explore methods of making human-machine interaction seamless, faster, and less error-prone with the intention of removing barriers to human situational awareness. I also investigate human interaction with machines to better understand preferences and offer insights into novel usage patterns.
