Overview

I am a political scientist with an interest in forced migration and housing rights in displacement. My research focuses on the integration process of refugees and IDPs in urban settings, particularly in their housing and economic rights and how these are exercised de facto in spite of legal restrictions.

Currently I am researching on displacement economies in two different projects. Protracted Displacement in an Urban World explores the well-being and the economies of urban refugees and IDPs across four countries (Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Jordan, and Kenya). Bordering Economies aims to unveil the participation of refugees in informal cross-border trade and the implications of these practices for refugee and border control policies, and for the local development of border towns.
