My main research interests include characterisation of interactions between bacteria, novel therapeutics and surfaces and also characterisation of biofilm formation and biofilm disruption in both static and dynamic systems using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and zeta potential and sizing measurements. I am also interested in the quantification of the physical and mechanical properties of biofilms. Recently, I have investigated biofilm development on nanofibrillated cellulose structures for potential use in advanced wound healing applications and the use of a novel alginate oligomer, OligoG, as a potential treatment for chronic infections in cystic fibrosis patients.
