Overview
I was awarded an Honorary Research Fellowship by the School of Geography and Planning in January 2019. My wide-ranging research interests include education and capacity building for planning practitioners and pedagogical approaches, sustainable urban development, public participation / community engagement, regional planning and governance, human-nature relationships, urban design and green infrastructure.
A dedicated educator with expertise in design studio, live project, experiential & work-based learning, and field study leadership, I was awarded an InnoLectureship by the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg in 2012. In 2014 I was awarded Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of my sustained track record in Higher Education Teaching and Management.
I hold a part-time Guest Lectureship at the University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart (Germany) for Comparative International Planning since 2007 and am regularly invited to give talks on planning education matters, most recently in November 2017 in Hong Kong at Hong Kong University and October 2018 in Tainan (Taiwan) at the National Cheng Kung University.
I have served on the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP) executive committee (2007-2014) and represented AESOP in the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN). I frequently serve as track chair for the planning education track for the AESOP annual congresses and currently coordinate the AESOP special interest group on Planning Education.
