Wellcome Trust ISSF Research Fellow

School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

I am currently a Wellcome trust research fellow and chemistry research coordinator in Prof. Gumbleton’s group, a role Icommenced in October 2018. My background lies in organic synthesis and polymer chemistry and I now apply my expertise to the synthesis of novel biomaterials.

I moved to the Cardiff University in 2006 where I undertook a PhD with Prof. Neil B. McKeown on the "The Synthesis and Study of Fluorescent Dendritic Molecules". After completing my PhD in 2010 I moved to Bangor University in North Wales and spent 28 months in the group of Dr. Hongyun Tai as an EU project coordinator and working on the controlled living polymerization techniques. I then moved to the University of Liverpool to work in Prof. Andy Cooper group as a visiting researcher on the synthesis of new monomers and intrinsically porous cage molecules. I was awarded a number of competitive grants and awards from MIT, USA-EG, Cardiff University and industrial organizations.

I then moved into industry and spent over 2 years working at DST-Innovation Ltd and Global SciTech-Innovations Ltd in South Wales. I have gained much experience in knowledge exchange and research impact in addition to spin-out company and entrepreneurship. During my time in industry I was involved in many interdisciplinary R&D and consultation projects (coating & formulation, renewable energy, water treatment, and oil & gas) and the development of new polymer formulations currently used in the market.
