I am a Research Associate and Lab Manager (N.3.13) in Sêr Cymru Research Group. Prior to joining Cardiff University in 2018, I was Co-founder of Huikang Optoelectronics and worked in Wireless & Optoelectronic Research & Innovation Centre at University of South Wales as a lecturer (assistant professor), where I was Optoelectronic module leader and had supervised 3 PhD students.

My research interest mainly focusses on novel optoelectronic and photonic integrated devices using on nanophotonic approaches of plasmonic & metamaterials, Silicon/III-V semiconductor photonic crystals, and photonic topological Insulators. I worked closely with industry and academia with applications ranging from high capacity/speed telecommunications, laser photonics, ultrasensitive chemical/medical biosensing, solar energy, high precision metrology, and high efficiency infrared light sources etc.

My expertise includes optical design, cleanroom nanofabrication, and photonic devices characterization and measurement. To date I have obtained 5 patents and have published more than 50 journal papers with H-index of >20 and number of citations of >2000.

I obtained a BSc in Applied Physics from National University of Defence Technology and a PhD in Optics from State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics at Chinese Academic of Science.

By working closely with industry and academia in several research projects, I have successfully delivered a number new concepts and patents. For example, I worked on a Carbon Trust project on highly efficient nanophotonic OLEDs and a A4B project on novel optical wavelength conversion (OWC) based on silicon and III-V semiconductor nano-waveguides. The OWC research was patented at US9078052 B2. During 2013-2017, I worked on Airbus funded project of laser wireless communications in unmanned aerial vehicle platform and an EPSRC project of large volume dimensional metrology. In 2017, I secured a grant for development of a patented integrated nanophotonic infrared heating technology (patent No 16826794) and have co-founded Huikang Optoelectronic Ltd.  Currently I mainly work on photonic topological insulators and edge modes funded by European Regional Development.
