Overview
I have a background in education and psychology with teaching experience in both national and international settings.
As Director of Medical Education, I head up the academic team and take the lead in the strategic direction and management of medical education activities. Alongside this I am director of the Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Medical Education, which I set up at a time when providing educational courses for clinicians was considered revolutionary.
I contribute to the development of learning and teaching across the University having served on a number of committees, including Senate, Chair of PGMDE Learning and Teaching Committee.
Nationally, I have been involved in teaching and curriculum development for the Royal College of Surgeons and have reviewed the curricula of a number of specialities for PMETB/GMC Curriculum Approval Panels, as PMETB Visitor and GMC Partner.
I have served on Executive of ASME (Association for the Study of Medical Education) and was elected as a Director of the Academy of Medical Educators. I have published in a range of educational journals and have held a range of external examiner roles. I was awarded a Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Educators, and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
