My research focusses on the environmental impact of increasing ocean alkalinity in order to sequester atmospheric CO2. Adding alkalinity to the ocean is likely going alter the ocean carbonate system and so will likely influence the marine environment. However, there have been very few studies looking at how exactly an increase in alkalinity will affect the marine environment.
I’m particularly interested in how an increase in ocean alkalinity will influence marine calcifying organisms with regards to their primary productivity and their ability to calcify.
