I am 63 yrs old and I am a first time doctoral researcher. Following a career in law and general maagement, in retirement personal experiences led me to a Masters in Theology where I developed an interest in art as a means of biblical interpretation. My Masters dissertation looked at the ways in which the strange, enigmatic Old Testament episode of Jacob wrestling with God has been interpreted in art and poetry. The power and symbolism of the story, held in creative dialogue with interpretive words and pictures, prompted rich theological and personal reflection. My research aims to consider the lives, characters and relationship of Jacob and Esau through artistic interpretation. I aim to explore interpretive art theories and consider these in relation to theological models of the Old Testament.
