I am currently in my second year of the Doctorate of Educational Psychology
Undergraduate Education – I studied BSc Psychology with professional placement here at Cardiff University. My placement was with the tier three eating disorders service in Swansea Bay University Health Board. My thesis was in the field Social Psychology and examined whether exposure to children affected individuals’ attitudes towards them.
Postgraduate Education – In 2016, I studied for a PGCE in Primary Education at Bath Spa University as part of the Teach First graduate program. I completed an MSc in Educational Leadership with Bristol University in 2019. My dissertation investigated mainstream class teachers perceptions of the impact of nurture provisions.
Employment – Following graduation and prior to starting my doctorate, I held a variety of different positions. I worked as a project worker with Barnardos, specialising in working with homeless young mums. Following this I became a founding member of Cardiff Volunteering (which is based in the student’s union) covering all the projects relating to schools and children. After a year here, I took up a position on Teach Firsts Leadership Development scheme, where I worked initially as a KS1 teacher, and then as a PPA and interventions teacher. In the year prior to starting the doctorate, I worked as a Behaviour Support Teacher specialising in the needs of primary school aged children.
My collaborative research project this year is examining ALNCo’s perceptions of Educational Psychologist’s assessments.
