Research

Research interests

My research interest lies in the interpretation of urban space and its related social process in contemporary China, based on which I attempt to seek for alternatives of urban envision. Currently, I am conducting the PhD project focusing on how the state apparatus of a totalitarian society is represented, internalised, and institutionalised through the micro-political agencies from the everyday perspective, especially contextualised in the pervasion of large-scale(mega) urban space in current Chinese cities. I try to expand the concept of hegemony in Gramscian sense, with other post-structural ideas from Lefebvre, Foucault, etc., to inspect social relations, the spatial ideology and practices, furthermore, to identify the hidden but comprehensive mass democratic struggles against modern alienation in urban China.
