In working on this PhD I am fulfilling a dream from my own undergraduate days - a long time ago now!  I have had a full and varied working life, ranging from teaching (every age from nursery to adults, languages, music, and the full primary curriculum) to performing as a singer and songwriter as well as a storyteller, and running workshops in song writing, singing and creativity. Many of my songs tell stories, and several have been picked up by other musicians around the world.  I perform under my maiden name, Anne Lister, and my website is at www.annelister.com My first degree and MA however were completed at Warwick university, and I always intended to complete a PhD.  Now I have retired from "the day job" I am able to do so.

Thesis

The Medieval Occitan Romance of Jaufre: a Storyteller's Perspective.

Jaufre is the only Arthurian romance written in Occitan. It is an episodic tale in which Jaufre rides to avenge an insult to King Arthur and along the way discovers true love. I will be looking at it as a practising storyteller, with the aim of putting it (or at least episodes from it) back in front of audiences in due course.
