Development of an ex vivo model for osteolytic hip and knee infections
In collaboration with the Cardiff and Vale Orthopaedic Centre, my Research is focused on developing a novel ex vivo co-culture model system to view and understanding the interactions between bacteria and bone integrity and cells within the hip, during osteolytic hip infections. With an increasing awareness of antibiotic resistance, understanding of these interactions can lead to development of non-antibiotic treatments and novel antimicrobials, to target these clinical infections.
