Overview

Pharmacotherapeutic interventions in Parkinson’s disease: investigating prescribing factors and health outcomes

The purpose of this project is to measure the changes in prescribing trends of Parkinson's medications between 2006 and 2017 in Wales and determine if these trends are in accordance with the national guidelines. The sample group includes all patients who are 40-years old or more and have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) between 2006 and 2017. The prescribing trends will be measured with respect to social deprivation status and patients’ care settings (care home vs community). The project will go further and explore the prescribing pattern of antipsychotics, antidepressants and dementia medications that are prescribed to PD patients.
