Clinical Photography success

Congratulations to Clinical Photography students for their recent success in the Institute of Medical Illustrators’ (IMI) Awards 2017.
IMI are the professional body for medical illustrators representing several disciplines of medical illustration including clinical photographers and videographers, healthcare designers/medical artists, both in the UK and internationally. Annually the Institute presents a number of prestigious awards in recognition of excellence, one of which is the Peter Kilshaw Student Award that is given to the best entry from a student on a recognised IMI accredited course. Clinical Photography postgraduate student Pip Stiff was presented with this award in October at the IMI Annual Conference in Nottingham, for her photograph titled ‘Mycosis fungoides on the back’, which she submitted together with colleague Meg Pearson from the Media Resources Centre, Cardiff and Vale UHB. The IMI’s Peter Kilshaw Student Award has been running since 2010, and over the eight years, five winners have been Cardiff University Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) Clinical Photography students, three of which have been Workforce, Education and Development Services (WEDS) funded students.
Pip Stiff also collected 2 Bronze Awards, one of which was a joint entry with fellow student Jess Leonard. Jess and Pip’s image was of an anatomical model of the trachea, taken for Cardiff University’s School of Healthcare Sciences’ Clinical Simulation Team.
Jess also collected a Bronze award for a photograph of ‘naevi cluster’.
Lorna Evans, another PgCert Clinical Photography student, received a remarkable four Silver Awards. This included patient images taken in the photography studio, operating theatre and a video entry she submitted with a colleague in Morriston Hospital, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg UHB.
Previous students also celebrated success, with recent 2017 graduates Lorna Mattocks, Khris Swann and Sam Cox receiving six Bronze awards between them. These graduates along with the current PgCert Clinical Photography students that received awards, are all WEDS funded students.
The award winning entries were showcased at the IMI Annual Conference in Nottingham from the 6th-7th October.
