A new rural model

24 March 2015

Rural Regeneration Conference

Professor Terry Marsden recently gave the key note address at the joint CREW Regeneration Wales and Community Housing Cymru Rural Regeneration Conference.

Faced with declining or threatened local services, limited job opportunities, not enough affordable housing and looming public expenditure cuts, new ways to sustain the quality of life in rural communities was the focus. The conference explored innovative approaches to creating sustainable rural communities, with a focus on local services, housing, economy, sustainability and inclusion.

This conference was a forum for discussion and a networking place for those with an interest in rural areas from professionals to policy makers, volunteers to front line staff.  Attendees were taken through a range of best practice examples and the latest developments and opportunities across a range of areas relevant to the functioning of vibrant rural communities.

Other speakers at the conference included Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, Steve Jones, Tai Ceredigion, Doug Hughes, Director, Hughes Architects and Chair of the Severn Valley EFFECT and Gerallt Llewellyn Jones, Menter Môn and CREW Board member.
