Manon Edwards Ahir joins the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies

The School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies has appointed a new Welsh language Lecturer through the Coleg Cymraeg Ceneldaethol Academic Staffing Scheme.

Manon Edwards Ahir joins the School as a lecturer and has experience as a journalist, television producer and a director of a communications agency.

Manon spent 17 years with the BBC in News departments in Wales and England, specialising in foreign matters, newsgathering and politics. After leaving the BBC, she established a bilingual communications agency, Mela. She's worked closely with institutions and companies across the country including the Football Association of Wales, the Welsh Government, Boom Cymru and Literature Wales.

Manon will join the journalist Sian Morgan Lloyd to develop the Welsh Language provision for the School. The School now offers many modules in Welsh and students have the opportunity to study a joint honours degree in Welsh and Journalism.

The Director of  Welsh language Provision for the School of Journalism, Sian Morgan Lloyd said, 'the popularity of the Welsh language provision has gone from strength to strength, and I'm confident that Manon will contribute to the academic programme that's progressing and developing very well. Manon's experience of the communications world will be a great asset to the department."

Manon said, "During my career, I've worked within and outside of the journalism and media sectors which has given me a different perspective and understanding. It's a very exciting time to study this world in a period of revolution in information communications and news. I'm looking forward to working with young Welsh speaking students who are passionate about news and journalism."
