Education Fellowship Programme

2 December 2022

Dorottya Cserzo has successfully completed the Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programme and achieved Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

This programme is a new initiative which runs over six months, supporting members of staff in developing as educators, reflecting on their teaching practice, and using research-based evidence to improve their practice. Participants attend a series of seven workshops over the course of the programme, working towards developing a teaching portfolio aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). Dorottya submitted her portfolio in September 2022 and was awarded Fellow status in November 2022.

Dorottya reflected on her guest lectures and workshops about research methods, her experiences as a dissertation supervision, and the bespoke training developed for Healthcare Inspectorate Wales. In the final reflective essay, Dorottya talks about the connections between teaching and research:

One of the key dichotomies in academia is research and teaching; often academics are described as balancing between the demands of research and teaching, prioritising one at the expense of the other. In my case, I conduct research on medical and dental education and much of the teaching that I do is focussed on qualitative research methods and dissertation supervision. For me, research and teaching are inseparable, and they inform and enrich each other. (…) I have found that the techniques that work well in teaching are applicable to research, and vice versa.
