This month, CUREMeDE and Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) launched a co-developed online toolkit to support general practice teams in integrating a pharmacist into their skill-mix.

The toolkit was created in response to the increasing integration of pharmacists into general practice surgeries to help alleviate the rising pressures faced by the NHS and general practitioners (GPs).

CUREMeDE’s recent research has highlighted the benefit of formal pharmacist training in general practice settings but highlighted general practice teams’ limited understanding of the pharmacist’s role and scope of practice.

To address this issue, we conducted a series of knowledge exchange events with general practice staff and general practice pharmacists to explore their views and experiences of this expanding role.

Our findings informed the development of a toolkit to provide a step-by-step approach to help general practice teams and pharmacists get the most out of this skill-mix opportunity.

After using the toolkit, users will be able to:

  • Describe the role of a general practice pharmacist and the benefits they can offer
  • Identify the most suitable pharmacist for their practice
  • Plan how to get the most from their pharmacist and how to support them to get the most from being in the general practice team
  • Describe techniques for convincing patients of the value of consulting a pharmacist

The toolkit is freely accessible online.

We’d love to hear your feedback, so don’t hesitate to get in touch!
