Focus Group Masterclass

In November 2021, Dorottya Cserzo ran a masterclass on focus groups for master’s students in SOCSI taking the Qualitative research methods module. The masterclass consisted of a one hour video lecture followed by an hour long interactive workshop. Dorottya covered the basics, strengths, limitations, challenges, and ethics of using focus groups in social science research. Drawing on her expertise in online communication and her recent experiences in running focus groups, Dorottya examined the differences between face-to-face and online focus groups.
The students were very engaged and had a lot of ideas and questions about running focus groups. A similar session is planned for February 2022 on the topic of research interviews for students on the Msc in Medical Education.
