International Foundation Programme

Enrolment and induction information for students on the International Foundation Programme.

Now that you've gained your place of study at the University, you can apply for University accommodation, and then, later on in September, complete the online and the School enrolment processes.

The School enrolment process takes place in September in Cardiff. You'll need to pick up your student ID card and attend a series of School enrolment and induction events that will help you to settle into university life.

It's very important you complete both online and School enrolment so that you can attend your classes, access University buildings and remain in the UK.

If you have any questions about enrolment and induction, please email us at international@cardiff.ac.uk.

In the coming months, we'll send you an email telling you how to enrol online for the International Foundation Programme. You should try to do this before you arrive in Cardiff.

If you aren't able to, don't worry – we'll help you to do it once you arrive in the city.

Your contact details

It is essential that you tell us of any changes to your correspondence and e-mail address, so we can keep you updated about your course in the coming months.

If you need to update your contact details, please email us at foundation@cardiff.ac.uk.

University residences

You can apply for accommodation for 2019/20 as soon as you have firmly accepted the University's offer of a place to study on the International Foundation Programme.

Accommodation is available in Talybont South, Aberdare Hall or Gordon Hall. If you're successful on the International Foundation Programme, you'll be able to apply for a wider selection of undergraduate residences as you progress to the first year of your degree (we'll provide you with more information about this during your foundation year).

Apply for University accommodation

To apply online for a place in University residences, please go to SIMS Online and log in using your Cardiff University username and password (we will have sent this to you in an email after your received your offer to study.)

Click on 'University Residences' and submit an application. Our Residences Office will then allocate your room in summer 2019.

If you have a medical condition with special requirements, please inform us using the appropriate section on the form. You may need to provide supporting medical evidence.

If you have any difficulties completing the form, or have any other questions, please email foundation@cardiff.ac.uk, and we will be happy to help.

Private accommodation

If you'd like to live in private accommodation, please make sure you arrive in Cardiff early to allow yourself enough time to look for – and move into – a suitable flat or house. It'll be a lot easier to do this before your course has started.

For more information about private accommodation, please email residences@cardiff.ac.uk.

University coach collection service

The University offers a free coach collection service. If you won't be able to use our coach collection service, the cheapest way to travel to Cardiff from London Heathrow Airport is by National Express coach.

Coaches leave approximately every hour, with fewer coaches leaving during the night. A single journey from Heathrow to Cardiff is approximately £30 to £45 and takes about three hours and 30 minutes.

You can buy your ticket online or at the National Express booking office in Heathrow Airport. Once you have your ticket, follow signs for the central bus station from the arrivals into terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you're arriving into terminal 5, check at the information desk about where to catch the coach.

Arrivals into Cardiff or Bristol Airport

If you'll be arriving into Cardiff or Bristol Airport, please see the International Office's guidance on travelling to Cardiff.

If your parents or other members of your family are accompanying you to Cardiff in September, you must book hotel accommodation for them in Cardiff as soon as possible. For information about travelling to Cardiff, please read our guide.

You will need to collect your University student ID card as part of the School induction and enrolment process. More information on how to collect your card will be given to you when you arrive.

Induction week

All students are expected to be in Cardiff for Induction Week, which is 23-27 September 2019. You must attend all events on the International Foundation Programme induction schedule.

There are important compulsory meetings to attend - including School enrolment - as well as visits to your School and the opportunity to meet your tutors and other students on the course. These will all help you settle into academic life at Cardiff University.
