Preliminary Year enrolment and induction
Congratulations on securing a place to study at the School of Biosciences.
We look forward to meeting you in September and to support your first steps into the journey of Higher Education that awaits.
Please note that all students must complete online enrolment before arriving in Cardiff in September.
We will contact you approximately three weeks prior to the start of your course to let you know that the online enrolment is open.

These induction events are applicable to students on these degree programmes:
- Biosciences with a Preliminary Year (Biochemistry/Biological Sciences/Zoology/Biomedical Sciences/Neuroscience)
- Dentistry with a Preliminary Year
- Medicine with a Preliminary Year.
School induction events
School induction events begin on Monday 27 September 2021. It is important that you attend all listed sessions which will take place as virtual meetings.
Please note that, for your safety, these events will be conducted as virtual meetings via Zoom. Please install the Zoom client on your phone or device prior to the meeting date and time.
Teaching will start from Monday 4 October 2021.

Introductory Talk and Module Options Talk | Monday 27 September 2021 | 14:00 | Online | At this session, you will meet key staff and learn more about your course and some important policies and procedures. Following this, there will be a session which will cover the various module options prior to the module Q&A sessions on Tuesday. |
IT Induction | Tuesday 28 September 2021 | 10:00 | Online | This session will provide an overview of the IT facilities that students can use to access their course materials, complete their day-to-day tasks, and do their assignments. We will be looking at the different tools available including iPhone and Android apps, OneDrive cloud storage, timetabling, the Student Intranet, Connecting to WiFi, Microsoft 365 and more. This session will provide students with the necessary information about the IT services that are available. Technical support for these services is via the IT Service Desk. |
Module Options question and answer session | Tuesday 28 September 2021 | 14:00 | Online | Representatives from several Schools will answer your questions about the various modules that can be selected within the programme. Following this session you will submit your module choices by 10am on Wednesday 29 September 2021. |
Online induction material completion | Wednesday 29 September 2021 | 13:00-16:00 | Online | This is a dedicated slot for students to complete induction activities that are being provided as online training – you will be provided with details of these courses through Learning Central, which you will have received guidance on using in the morning’s IT session. |
Professionalism Session | Thursday 30 September 2021 | 11:30 | Online | This session will cover the professional skills and behaviours expected of you during your studies. |
