Different Healthcare courses have different uniform requirements, and details are provided below.

Uniform fittings usually take place during the first week of term. Please refer to your individual first week timetable.

Uniform details

Uniform for clinical placement:

  • lilac tunic, from Cardiff University
  • navy fleece, from Cardiff University
  • purple trousers, from Cardiff University

Midwifery specific equipment

  • one watch with a second hand

Uniform for clinical placement:

Uniform for clinical placement:

  • white polo shirt, from Cardiff University
  • white tunic, from Cardiff University
  • green trousers, from Cardiff University
  • black or navy flat-heeled shoes (not boots), from a supplier of your choice

Uniform for clinical placement:

  • light grey scrub tunic with dark grey scrub trousers, from Cardiff University
  • light coloured trainers/shoes (not boots) from a supplier of your choice

Clinical placement

Uniform for clinical placement:

  • white polo shirt, from Cardiff University
  • navy trousers, from Cardiff University
  • navy or black flat lace-up shoes (not boots), from a supplier of your choice
  • navy or black plain appropriate swimwear/attire for hydrotherapy practical sessions, from a supplier of your choice

Practical classes

For Physiotherapy practical classes, you will be required to bring the following items with you to enable you to participate appropriately and professionally:

  • white plain cotton/airtex polo shirt (no logo)
  • navy plain cotton (not lycra or nylon) shorts (running type, high-legged – not cycling shorts, leggings or long shorts)
  • cotton underwear
  • plain training shoes
  • navy plain jogging bottoms. Optional, but no alternative is acceptable.
  • navy plain sweatshirt (no logo). Optional, but no alternative is acceptable.

The items can be sourced from a supplier of your choice.

Physiotherapy specific equipment

Equipment is provided for use in the classroom; however, you may wish to consider purchasing the following items to supplement their learning outside of the timetabled sessions:

  • one 8" goniometer – 8" long armed protractor used to measure joints/joint angles
  • one tape measure – for measuring leg length, chest expansion
  • one marking pencil – useful for marking joint lines, the course of nerves and other anatomical features; an eyebrow pencil is usually acceptable
  • one pack of face paint crayons – useful for drawing muscles during surface anatomy practical classes

Uniform for clinical placement:

  • light grey scrub tunic with black scrub trousers, from Cardiff University
  • black or navy flat-heeled shoes (not boots), from a supplier of your choice

Uniform for clinical placement and anatomy centre in Year 1 and 2:

  • Smart attire, bare below the elbow and covered to the knee.
  • Comfortable shoes.
  • What you wear should be in alignment with the All Wales NHS Dress Code.

Uniform for clinical placement in Years 3-5:

  • Grey Scrubs from supplier (details will be made available on Learning Central).
Stethoscope

You may wish to have your own stethoscope to practice clinical skills.  Cardiff University can provide stethoscopes as a piece of clinical equipment in clinical skills practicals held in Clinical Skills Suites but stethoscopes are not loaned to students. You will need a stethoscope in Years 3-5.

Our Clinical Skills recommend the 3MTM Littmann® Classic IIITM Monitoring Stethoscopes.  They also strongly recommend that students have their stethoscopes personalised (name engraved). This is a free service with Williams Medical and it is likely that other companies will do the same.
