Cardiff University Opera Ensemble

Cardiff University Opera Ensemble gives the opportunity to students to put on a staged operatic show.

It aims to introduce singers to operatic repertoire from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, and initiate them into the ways of stagecraft. Selected students will be given solo, ensemble and/or choral excerpts to sing from operas in all the main operatic languages (especially Italian, German, French). This will include arias, duets, ensembles as well as recitative. There will be opportunity for non-singers to get involved as assistant director or stage hand.

Rehearsals will involve musical preparation and stage rehearsals in preparation for staged showcase performance of operatic excerpts. All students will be expected to learn their music by heart before stage rehearsals start.

The Opera Ensemble is only open to Cardiff University School of Music students. For more information get in touch with Elin Jones - JonesE159@cardiff.ac.uk
