John Hall is Sub Principal Flute in the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and is flute tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and at Cardiff University.
Born in Antrim, John studied in Glasgow graduating with Distinction from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, winning both the prize for flute and the Concerto Competition. Upon graduating he took up a position in the Orchestra of Scottish Opera where he stayed for over ten years. Subsequently John held a position in the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera before moving to his current role in BBCNOW.
He has played with many of the UK’s leading orchestras including The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has also played guest Principal in the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
Away from music John enjoys the outdoors, good food and cycling; an ideal day would consist of all three!
