Research and Innovation Services

The Research and Innovation Services department supports the University in generating income from external sources for research, innovation, engagement, commercialisation and international activities.

Our primary users are researchers, Academic Schools and their Colleges which are active in bidding for external research grants and contracts. Together, they deliver science, impact and innovation activities supported by external funding.

Research and Innovation Services also engages with a wide range of external stakeholders, including government funders, the charitable sector and industry.

Research and Innovation Services

About the department

In order to meet our objectives the department’s complement of almost 100 highly-skilled staff is split into five teams:

The Commercial Development Team works towards the protection and commercialisation of research outcomes and the development of fruitful partnerships with external organisations.

The Innovation System and Engagement Team facilitates internal and external relationships to support the University as a key driver for economic and social change within the city, city-region and beyond.

The Research Development Team supports the submission of competitive applications for research funding and the effective internal management of research activities.

The Research Governance and Contracts Team supports effective research integrity and governance operations for the University's research community. It is responsible for negotiating and agreeing appropriate legal terms and conditions for research activities.

The Research Grants Office Team provides support for research funding application processes and post award administration.
