A summer-long celebration of the University’s innovative work.
Running throughout summer 2016, Summer of Innovation showcased the best of our innovation work. It brought together academics, students and public and private sectors to strengthen existing partnerships and create real outcomes.
Summer of Innovation shone light on ideas for research projects, collaborations, and new relationships, building our connections with the outside world, from research partners to new businesses. Take a look at what happened.

Her Majesty The Queen launched the Summer of Innovation with the opening of CUBRIC on 7 June 2016.

Hack the Local brought together journalists, software developers and public sector representatives to create data-driven solutions to local news challenges.

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Catalysis held their first symposium. MRes students were given the opportunity to highlight their work.

The annual Innovation and Impact Awards celebrated our successful collaborations and links with business.

Creative Cardiff ran a pop-up hub in the Wales Millennium Centre. It brought together people working in the creative industries in a space for discussion, collaboration and experimentation.

The Astronomer Royal, Lord Martin Rees, was awarded the 2016 Erasmus Medal at Academia Europaea's Annual Conference.

The School of Pharmacy's innovative work on bees and pollinators provided The Sound of Summer. The School opened their door to the local community.

The MEDOW offshore wind power project hosted an open day to highlight our cutting-edge energy and environment research.

A four-day Start-Up Accelerator allowed current students and recent graduates to receive training from business advisors and entrepreneurs.

Innovation was this year’s theme for Cardiff University’s presence at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
