Robert Searle - winner of the 3MT® 2017 Cardiff heat

Fancy being immersed in an exciting and fast-paced research communication competition? The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition is a fun and inspiring way to spend an afternoon. In the competition, doctoral students from across the University are challenged to present their research in just three minutes, with just one slide. You’ll be taken on a journey through a diverse range of research projects, each in three easy to digest minutes. These are just a few of the titles confirmed so far:

Lasers Grown on Silicon

Forecasting the Spread of Obesity through Social Networks

Wellbeing in Adoptive Families

Nanomagnets: a Tiny Solution to Huge Problems

Where is ‘Woman’ in Homosexual?

A panel of judges then decides who will go through to the UK semi-finals (and hopefully the finals.) The audience can also vote for their favourite, who will be awarded the ‘People’s Choice’ award. The competition offers a unique glimpse into the world of the PhD, as well as a chance to see a wide range of presenting styles in action, and you could even pick up a few tips for your own presentations. After the competition, you will also have the chance to socialise over refreshments.
