The Department of Conservation adopted new stretch goals in 2015 which, more than ever before, aspire to see our people and our environment flourish, together. The rate of native species decline is hailed a ‘biodiversity crisis’ and our human population endures increasing effects of lifestyle related illness and a growing burden of mental illness.

Our largely urban population is weighed down by concrete and steel while our rivers are drowning with agricultural intensification. The Government is committed to putting people"s wellbeing and the environment at the heart of its policies, including reporting against a wider set of wellbeing indicators in future.

This session will explore the journey thus far, the challenges and opportunities.
