Research as official development assistance (ODA) can be an important input in achieving progress toward many of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, without consideration of the ethical implications of collaborating in low and middle income countries, it can fail and even harm.

In this seminar, presenters from Cardiff University will use examples from their real-world Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) projects to highlight known ethical pitfalls in ODA collaborations, as well as protential best practice approaches for such collaborations. In open discussion breakout groups, attendees will then co-create a policy brief that UK funding agencies can reference in overseeing future ODA projects and calls.
