This event has now been rescheduled to take place on Monday 8 November (originally due to take place on Wednesday 15 September).

A virtual forum, sponsored by the European History Quarterly, and run by the History & Heritage research theme under the School-wide Responding to Crisis research theme at the School of Modern Languages.

A group of scholars who specialise in Black European History and Culture will discuss how their research aims to confront traditional analytical categories. The discussion will centre around Blackness in European History and the role of history (or historical narratives) in the creation of identities will be examined.

The speakers will include:

Alani Hicks-Bartlett, Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature and French Studies at Brown University.

Chloe Ireton, Lecturer in the History of Iberia and the Iberian World 1500-1800 at University College London.

Nick Jones, Assistant Professor of Spanish Literature at University of California, Davis.

Montaz Marché, PhD student at Birmingham University.

Onyeka Nubia, Director of Studies at Narrative Eye at Nottingham University.

Jesús Sanjurjo, Lecturer in Hispanic and Latin American Studies at Cardiff University.

The debate will be moderated by Ruselle Meade, Lecturer in Japanese Studies.

European History Quarterly (EHQ) is a quarterly peer reviewed journal which has earned an international reputation as an essential resource on European history, publishing articles by eminent historians on a range of subjects from the later Middle Ages to post-1945.
