Destitution - The Impact of Covid 19 in the UK

In this Breakfast Briefing, we will be joined by Elena Lisauskaite , an economist at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR), and Dr Victoria Winckler, Director of the Bevan Foundation, to explore the extent and impact of destitution in the UK, and in particular, reflecting on the impact of Covid during the course of the past 16 months.

Destitution is defined here as income so low that a household is likely to lack the essential provision of shelter, food, heating, lighting, clothing and basic toiletries. Elena will share details of the recently published report into COVID-19 Impact on Destitution in the UK , suggesting how increased unemployment and the ending of the Furlough scheme will adversely affect poverty levels. Victoria will provide insights into the Welsh context, sharing some of the policy suggestions put forward by the Bevan Foundation.

Join us for this session to hear more about what can be done about this critically urgent issue.
