A table full of Chinese delicacies

Food and culture are intrinsically linked. Traditional cuisine is passed down from one generation to the next and over time, a nation’s cuisine becomes an expression of cultural identity.

China is no exception and for many Chinese people, their food is one of the most important aspects of their national identity: it is deeply rooted in the traditions of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, Confucianism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and cultural and artistic achievements.

In this evening lecture we will introduce you to how the Chinese cuisine differs across the country’s vast geography and how this reflects regional landscapes, lifestyles and cultures. We will also introduce the link between Chinese food and traditional philosophy, and the symbolic meaning of mealtimes in China.

Finally, for those who take a practical approach to learning, we will be giving some tips on how to order food in a restaurant!

This event will be held online via Zoom. We will email you details of how to join the day before.
