Join Professor Simon Jones and Professor Ernest Choy as they discuss their research into how patients with the same diagnosis of arthritis display fundamental differences in their symptoms and response to treatment. If we can better understand the cause of joint inflammation, and predict what course it will take, we can improve patients’ individual diagnosis, and find the most appropriate treatments for them.

But the research doesn’t stop there. At Cardiff we also look at the wider impact on patients‘ well-being. We understand the effects arthritis has on patients’ cardiovascular risk, mental and physical fatigue, sleep, changes in mood and depression. Professor Jones and Professor Choy bring new approaches to understanding the wider impact of living with arthritis and work closely with psychologists, psychiatrists, neuroscientists and geneticists. Their aim is to deliver long-term patient benefit by improving how patients manage the condition day-to-day, and increase the chances of remission.
