The coexistence between increasing food production and the growth of all types of food insecurity raises a question: Is the current agricultural model designed to feed the world?

This PhD research project aims to analyse family farming as a key element to achieve a sustainable food system - to endure the extreme poverty, hunger and undernourishment eradication. To meet the research goals the family farming heterogeneity, market structural changes and related public policies will be analysed.

The subject of this research is the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina where agriculture is par excellence based on family farming in opposition to the current agricultural model adopted in Brazil.

PLACE seminars are free to attend and open to all.
