The Data Science Academy (DSA) are pleased to host a series of virtual, student-focused seminars presented by our industrial partners on a wide range of topics within the discipline of data science.
Our key collaborators, from start-ups to large multi-nationals, covering all sectors share their stories to demonstrate to our students the diverse and wide ranging opportunities the data science industry can offer once they graduate.
Ship Shape
The first talk in the DSA Industry Seminar Series comes from Alistair Baillie from Cardiff company Ship Shape, a search platform that uses AI to identify investors that are likely to be interested in businesses. He focuses on start-ups and why you might want to work in one.
Muddy Boots
This talk features Mark Powell, Solutions Manager at Muddy Boots Software. He gives an insight into the company and discusses some use cases they have for AI within their project suite, as well as projects they have worked on with DSA students.
Nightingale HQ
Steph Locke is a Data Scientist and Chief Operating Officer of Nightingale HQ and Locke Data. As part of our DSA Seminar Series, she talks about reproducible machine learning, including the benefits and recommendations.

Data Engineer Lewis Wilkins talks about the whats, whys and hows of MLOps (machine learning operations) in this seminar from the Data Science Academy. He works at BJSS, a leading technology and engineering consultancy with offices all over the world.
Cyber Security
Dr Yulia Cherdantseva, lecturer at Cardiff University's School of Computer Science and Informatics, presents this Data Science Academy Industry Seminar Series talk about Cyber Security, its multi-disciplinary nature and the key concepts.

Professor Joe O'Mahoney is a Professor of Consulting at Cardiff University and Chief Executive Officer of Consulting Mastered Ltd and Consulting Pathway Ltd. In this talk he provides an overview of the consulting industry for graduates, advice on how to get into the larger firms and advice on starting your own consultancy with a view to growing and selling it.
