Our vision is to pioneer frontier-challenging "big-question" research and become an internationally leading centre of excellence in the field of basic and applied immunology.
Our objective is to better understand the complex 'systems' that govern the immune system in health and disease, using an integrated approach that combines world-leading experimental and clinical research with computational modelling.
Our Research Institute builds on our existing strength in research on infection, immunity and big data, and the exploitation of our findings in the clinic. We apply systems biology based-approaches to immunological research by incorporating all necessary skills and technologies across disciplines.
We foster collaborations with academic, clinical and industrial partners from across Cardiff University, the UK and overseas. Our immediate strategic objective is to identify key pathways in pathogen control and disease progression. A better understanding of the underlying highly complex mechanisms will allow us to develop new therapies and vaccines for disease intervention and prevention, and novel diagnostics for better patient management.
Our research covers many of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. We strive to deliver long-term impacts on science, education and societies, through tackling the national and global challenges of our time. Our ultimate aim is to make a real difference in the clinic, and improve patient outcomes from disease and public health as a whole.
