Do you want to make a difference, not just a choice?

Our midwifery programme is an innovative, popular and rewarding career. Our programme provides you with the skills and knowledge to become a registered midwife after 3 years and offering you the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives; a value that few other professions can offer.

The role midwives play in preparing women for the delivery of new life makes them a vital presence during all stages of pregnancy, labour and the early postnatal period. You’ll be the expert on childbirth and so your responsibilities are diverse. As a qualified midwife you’ll provide full antenatal care, identify, refer and co-ordinate the care for women with high-risk pregnancies, monitor all women and support them during labour and teach new mothers how to feed and care for their babies. You will be working with women from a variety of backgrounds so you will need to be confident enough to communicate and support different people in a variety of situations.

With 100% of our students satisfied with our course (UNISTATS) you will gain a comprehensive understanding in a supportive environment around both the science and art of midwifery. The science of midwifery includes biological principles, research, methods of inquiry, decision making, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. Whilst the art of midwifery focuses on communication and the approach to delivering care, encompassing genuine caring, respect, sensitivity, and valuing the uniqueness of individuals in a culturally diverse society. This will enable you to deliver high quality midwifery care in a rapidly changing environment.

You will be taught by motivated and knowledgeable lecturers in the field of midwifery who are influencing healthcare across Wales and beyond through engagement and research. This is demonstrated by our University being part of the only Collaborating Centre for the World Health Organisation in Europe focused exclusively on midwifery development.

You will specialise in midwifery from the start of the course and you will practice your skills in our clinical simulation suite which enables you to learn in a realistic midwifery ward with simulated mother and baby. These lifelike simulations mean you can safely practice and develop essential skills, developing your confidence and expertise before going out into placement.

You will spend approximately 50% of your time on placement. We have close working relationships with two large service providers in South Wales and so your learning will take place both in hospitals and in the community in a range of environments, enhancing experience in caring for women from a variety of cultures with differing needs. You will benefit from placements supported by experienced midwife educators to help you in becoming the best midwife you can be. During your first year you will participate in the care of women in low risk environments such as community teams and midwifery led birth units. In your second year, the emphasis will move to high risk and complex care needs of mother and baby and placements will in the main be in obstetric led units. You will also experience placements in accident and emergency department, gynaecological wards and neonatal units. There is also an opportunity for you to undertake a placement learning opportunity in a different environment, either within the UK or overseas.

This degree will lead to eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Midwife. On qualification, you can work in a range of healthcare settings, both in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Above all else, we strive to ensure that our graduates are ready for the next step in their career and the many opportunities that await them. That’s why 100% of our midwifery students are in employment or further study within 6 months of graduating (UNISTATS).

Rhaid bod gennych sampl negyddol wedi'i dilysu ar gyfer HIV, Hepatitis B, a Hepatitis C. Trefnir hyn gan yr Adran Iechyd Galwedigaethol ar ôl i'r rhaglen gychwyn.

Bydd gofyn i chi gwblhau gwiriad DBS (Gwasanaeth Gwahardd Datgelu) a yw'ch cais yn llwyddiannus. Os ydych chi'n gwneud cais o rai gwledydd dramor, efallai y bydd angen Tystysgrif Ymddygiad Da. Os oes gennych euogfarn droseddol berthnasol, bydd hyn yn cael ei nodi yn y gwiriad a gallai effeithio ar eich gallu i gofrestru ar y cwrs. Dylai ymgeiswyr sydd ar y rhestr wahardd fod yn ymwybodol bod gwneud cais i'r cwrs hwn yn debygol o gael ei ystyried yn drosedd.

Cewch ragor o wybdoaeth am y broses ymgeisio yn ein polisïau derbyn myfyrwyr.

Y broses ddethol neu gyfweld

Ni fyddem yn gwneud cynnig heb gyfweliad ac ni fydd unrhyw gynigion yn cael eu gwneud nes bydd yr holl gyfweliadau wedi digwydd.

Rhaid i bob ymgeisydd fodloni'r gofynion sylfaenol ar Lefel 2 (TGAU yn nodweddiadol) a Lefel 3 (Safon Uwch yn nodweddiadol) er mwyn bod yn gymwys i'w hystyried ar gyfer cyfweliad. Os ydych chi'n cwrdd â'r gofynion mynediad lleiaf, bydd eich cais yn rhoi sgôr rifiadol yn seiliedig ar eich datganiad personol. Bydd ymgeiswyr cymwys yn cael eu rhestru yn ôl y sgôr hon a gwahoddir yr ymgeiswyr sydd ar y brig i gyfweld

Ein proses gyfweld

Rydym yn defnyddio'r fformat cyfweliad mini lluosog (MMI), sef cyfres o orsafoedd cyfweld byr, wedi'u hamseru'n ofalus y byddwch chi'n cylchdroi o'u cwmpas yn eu tro.

Mae'r MMIs yn ein helpu i benderfynu a ydych chi:

  • yn gallu meddwl ar eich traed
  • wedi meddwl am rai o'r materion sy'n bwysig i'r proffesiwn
  • yn gallu gwerthuso gwybodaeth yn feirniadol
  • yn gallu cyfleu syniadau yn effeithiol.

Maent hefyd yn canolbwyntio ar archwilio'r rhinweddau a'r priodoleddau personol sy'n bwysig i'ch datblygiad gyrfa yn y dyfodol.

Mae'r cyfweliadau hyn yn caniatáu inni gwrdd â chi'n bersonol ac asesu gwybodaeth nad yw bob amser ar gael yn rhwydd yn y broses ymgeisio - nid ydynt wedi'u bwriadu i brofi faint o wybodaeth flaenorol sydd gennych am y pwnc neu'r proffesiwn.

Myfyrwyr tu allan i'r UE (2021/22)

Mae lleoliad GIG yn rhan angenrheidiol o'r cwrs hwn. Mae'r GIG yn trefnu lleoliadau sydd ar gael i fyfyrwyr sy'n gymwys i dalu ffioedd DU/UE yn unig. Felly, nid yw'r cwrs hwn ar gael ar gyfer myfyrwyr rhyngwladol.

Costau ychwanegol

Mae gennym amrywiaeth o breswylfeydd sydd yn gweddu i anghenion a phoced yr unigolyn. Cewch wybod rhagor ar ein tudalennau llety.

Strwythur y cwrs

Rydym yn gweithio gyda'n myfyrwyr ar hyn o bryd yn diweddaru ac yn gwella cynnwys y cwrs hwn. Mae’r wybodaeth isod yn adlewyrchu'r cwricwlwm presennol a fydd yn newid yn ôl pob tebyg. Disgwylir i ni fod wedi gorffen adolygu'r cwrs erbyn mis Awst 2021. Bydd y dudalen hon wedi'i diweddaru erbyn mis Hydref 2021 i ddangos y newidiadau.

The course is comprised of approximately 50% theory and 50% practice, integrating both in a modular structure throughout three years. All modules are compulsory and credit rated. By successfully completing each module, you will accumulate credits towards the award of a degree, and entry onto the Professional Register.

Mae'r modiwlau a ddangosir yn esiampl o'r cwricwlwm arferol. Byddant yn cael eu hadolygu cyn blwyddyn academaidd 2021/22. Bydd y modiwlau terfynol yn cael eu cyhoeddi erbyn mis Medi 2021

Blwyddyn un

In year one you will be introduced to the academic knowledge and practice of midwifery. The emphasis is on normal midwifery, as childbirth is a normal physiological life event for the majority of healthy women. You will be exposed to the theory and practice of normal midwifery and related key skills through relevant knowledge and clinical experience.

The taught modules in year one total 120 credits. All are core (compulsory).

Blwyddyn dau

In year two you will adapt and develop your existing knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe and effective care for women during normal and complicated pregnancy and childbirth. You will have additional short placements in an Accident and Emergency department, a gynaecological ward and a neonatal unit.

The taught modules in year two total 120 credits. All are core (compulsory).

Blwyddyn tri

In year three, your existing knowledge, skills and attitudes will develop to enable the provision of effective care for women and babies throughout pregnancy, labour and the puerperium. Clinical placements will reflect this. It is expected at this time that the student moves towards working under indirect supervision of the mentor in order to develop confidence and independence and to undertake complex activities that can be safely and responsibly delegated.

Throughout the three years of the programme you will have the opportunity for involvement in case holding in the form of a continuity of care scheme. As part of this scheme you will follow the care of between 3 and 5 women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.

The taught modules in year three total 120 credits. All are core (compulsory).

Mae'r Brifysgol wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu amrywiaeth eang o opsiynau modiwl lle’n bosibl. Ond byddwch yn ymwybodol er y byddwn yn gwneud pob ymdrech i gynnig dewis, gall hyn gael ei gyfyngu mewn rhai amgylchiadau. Y rheswm am hyn yw'r ffaith mai dim ond nifer cyfyngedig o leoedd sydd ar gael ar rai modiwlau, a gaiff eu dyrannu ar sail y cyntaf i'r felin. Mae'n ofynnol i fodiwlau eraill sicrhau isafswm nifer o fyfyrwyr cyn gallu eu cynnal, er mwyn gwneud yn siŵr y gellir cyflwyno addysg o ansawdd priodol. Gall modiwlau gael eu cyfyngu oherwydd gwrthdaro yn yr amserlen hefyd, ac er bod y Brifysgol yn ymdrechu i amharu cyn lleied â phosibl ar eich dewis, byddai'n syniad da i chi ofyn am gyngor gan yr Ysgol berthnasol am y dewisiadau modiwl sydd ar gael.
